Severe weather can have damaging effects to the electric grid, which in turn could leave thousands, and potentially hundreds of thousands, of customers without electric power. Not only might this result in an unpleasant experience for people affected, but this could greatly hurt the bottom line of utility companies and can greatly disrupt their services. One way to prepare for this is by optimizing resource allocation on the part of the utility company ahead of the storm. We worked with a major utility company to help build and deploy an AI model that would predict damage to the electric grid given a storm forecast.
